Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarships for his parents and a commitment to the community. First family he is the youngest of nine children of Lucious Selmon and Jessie raised on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. The Selmons were also among the three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards and Lombardi Awards. He was one of the top linemen in all of the nation. In his three years as a starter Oklahoma finished 32-1-1 and won two national championships. Selmon was honored when the National Football Foundation named him a Scholar-Athlete for the third time in 1975. Selmon earned a degree in Education. Lee Roy was involved in voluntary work for 10 hours a week during his time at college. After college, he moved in Tampa and played nine years for Tampa's Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro 3 times. He then began his professional career. In 1988, he was an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored him in 1982 as being among the top 10 young men of the United States. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch larger and weighing the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was a player, captained his team for the year 1975. In 1993, he became the associate director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave their Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
