In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the most-streamed song at the time within 6 months. It was a mix of reggaeton and pop music did not only bring attention to reggaeton but it also attracted attention towards Latin music generally. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs composed in Spanish mostly, and four more in the year 2016. When Despacito was at its height, the band's commercial success in 2017 19 songs mostly in Spanish were in at the very top of 100. The number grew to 41 in 2020. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix from Despacito (2017) well-known artists started collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake along with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna with Maluma for Medellin (2019). In the years 2020, many Reggaeton stars were dissatisfied with the trend of the genre towards the mainstream. But, the younger generation Rauw Alejandro wanted to keep the trend going. The genre often included elements of electronic dance music, and various other forms.
